Legalisation is the process of verifying that the notary public signature and seal are genuine. For most countries, this can be completed by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office but some countries require their own embassy or consulate to verify the document also. The Foreign and Commonwealth Office will verify the document by issuing an Apostille; the embassies will attach their own stamps.
